Covenant or Die?
As God’s people obey the Lord in our generation, His Word instructs us:
“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” ~ Joshua 1:8 NLT
America’s very first state Constitution and our national Constitution were both framed on the republican virtues from Exodus 18:21 NLT: “But select from all the people some capable, honest men who fear God and hate bribes. Appoint them as leaders over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten.”
As we vote, let’s be sure to choose not the ones promising us what they think we want, but for those who fear God and His Ways, men who are:
- Capable
- Honest
- Who fear God
- Who hate Bribes
Samuel Adams promoted these thoughts as the author of the Rights of the Colonists as Christians which states, “These may be best understood by reading—and carefully studying the institutes of the great Law Giver and Head of the Christian Church—which are to be found clearly written and promulgated in the New Testament.
Patrick Henry urged Americans in his day, “Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”
They did risk and many lost their lives and their fortunes but NOT their sacred honor. All we have to do presently is go to the polls and in fear and trembling honor God Almighty with our Biblical vote.
