In the early 1600’s Christian leaders governed each colony by the Bible.

The Mayflower Compact, an agreement written in 1620 by the Christian leaders of the Pilgrims to work with the sailors of the Mayflower includes: “In the name of God, Amen… by the grace of God… Having undertaken for the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian Faith… a Voyage to plant the first Colony in the Northern parts of Virginia… in the presence of God and one another, covenant, and combine ourselves together into a civil body politick…” (These references are usually taken out of the document when it is referred to in government schools.)

In 1638 Reverend Thomas Hooker taught about 800 men Biblical principles from Exodus 18:21, “But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.”  Then those men in 1639 wrote The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut, America’s first state Constitution. It was based on these principles of Godly Biblical citizenship. Twelve out of thirteen colonies were like-wise Biblically self-governed in the 1600’s.

In the 1700’s America experienced another Great Awakening. Christian leaders again taught Americans how to govern themselves according to the Word of God which included Biblical responsibilities of self, family, and civil government.  King George III tried to usurp those Biblical responsibilities by closing their Houses of Representatives. He sent over his pets to be their governors. The Americans appealed for ten years asking King George III to honor them as British citizens and to let them govern themselves. As he refused and tyrannized them instead, they pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to appeal “to the Supreme Judge of the world,” to Declare their Independence and have “no other king but King Jesus”.

Can we honor the Heritage that God Almighty gave us by registering to vote? Let’s register (and help ten others to register) THIS week as registration closes in most states one month before the primaries begin. Many decisions will be made in the local elections. Be there to choose God’s Way! Shouldn’t we vote for Biblical values of self, family and civil government?

May America bless God this week to honor America’s Declaration of Independence. May we once again be independent of a tyrannical government and be dependent only on the King of all kings: our Lord Jesus Christ.
