Teaching His Story

A Tale of Two Christmases

Over a century ago four agendas were passed in 1913 that resulted in severe loss of liberty to Americans. These were the 16th and 17th Amendments, the Revenue Act and Federal Reserve Act. Each of these agendas put Americans at a distinct disadvantage, causing us to prosper less and pay more. The last agenda passed was the Federal Reserve Act which we now realize is neither “federal” nor has reserves, but was expected to bring a “Dawn of New Era in Business.” The Federal Reserve Act was passed while most Americans were celebrating Christmas, completely unaware that we were drastically losing our liberties. It was considered then as “A Fine Christmas Present.”(1)

But there was a time during the American Revolution when Americans wanted to celebrate and relax with their families but realized that it was urgent and incumbent upon them to defend their families and Liberty. At this point, the probability of success looked the bleakest. General Washington decided to use the expectation that the ruthless Hessians who were hired by the English to slaughter Americans would quite likely be hung over on Christmas day. So he pressed his war-torn, exhausted and barely supplied troops to march through a violent snow and hail storm where two of his men froze to death. The troop’s sacrifice and spirit took the hired mercenaries by surprise so much that about 1000 prisoners were taken hostage after only 45 minutes of fighting. Henry Knox is quoted as saying, “Providence seemed to have smiled upon every part of this enterprise.”(2)

Father, we thank You for enabling America to once again trust You for our families and our Liberty. Will You grace us through this season to stay alert and prayerful during the Holidays and through the next season? Help us to build Your Kingdom and make disciples to restore the Heritage that You blessed America so bountifully with. We pray for an Honest, Peaceful transition into the new administration of President Trump. To You be all the Glory, in Jesus’ Holy, Mighty Name, Amen.

A1 S7 C2-3

Every Bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a Law, be presented to the President of the United States; If he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his Objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the Objections at large on their Journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such Reconsideration two thirds of that House shall agree to pass the Bill, it shall be sent, together with the Objections, to the other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered, and if approved by two thirds of that House, it shall become a Law. But in all such Cases the Votes of both Houses shall be determined by Yeas and Nays, and the Names of the Persons voting for and against the Bill shall be entered on the Journal of each House respectively,

If any Bill shall not be returned by the President within ten Days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the Same shall be a Law, in like Manner as if he had signed it, unless the Congress by their Adjournment prevent its Return, in which Case it shall not be a Law.

Every Order, Resolution, or Vote to which the Concurrence of the Senate and House of Representatives may be necessary (except on a question of Adjournment) shall be presented to the President of the United States; and before the Same shall take Effect, shall be approved by him, or being disapproved by him, shall be repassed by two thirds of the Senate and House of Representatives, according to the Rules and Limitations prescribed in the Case of a Bill.

This section of the Constitution shows so clearly how the Framers understood the sin nature of man! They had mechanisms to force the president and/or Congress to take action when maybe they might not want to.

Father God Almighty grace us in this season in the same way. Cause us to obey You as you have promised in Your Word. Thank You, Lord! In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen!
