You cannot serve God and mammon.

~ Jesus, Matthew 6:24 NKJV

According to E-sword, the root of mammon is avarice, which from the 1828 means:

An inordinate desire of gaining and possessing wealth; covetousness; greediness or insatiable desire of gain.

This definition helped me to realize that mammon is more than just “money” which so many texts translate it as.

God clearly warns us in scripture to avoid: Avarice, covetousness, greediness, envy and jealousy. 

Let’s compare and contrast God’s system with the system of mammon, shall we?

1. God gives! He gave his only begotten Son. In the system of mammon, satan tries to steal what God wants to give us by asking “Hath God really said…”
2. Jesus came to give us Life and that abundantly. satan, who rules the system of mammon, came to steal, kill and destroy.
3. God’s system teaches us to “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.” (Mal 3:10) whereas the system of mammon convinces us that there is only so much wealth to be had, like a pie, so it seduces us into being jealous of those who have wealth.
4. Able was immersed in God’s system and gave Him his best. But Cain, who could not be happy for Able nor simply give God his best, in his jealousy killed Able.

But we can give God our best. We can believe Him and honor Him. We can tithe and even “try” God!

A5S1 Part 1 Amending the Constitution

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments… ~A5S1

George Washington warned in his Farewell Address “let there be no change by usurpation”. (1)

He was speaking of the Constitution.

Charles Jarvis explained “The honorable gentleman last speaking has been called upon those persons who are opposed to our receiving the present system, to show another government, in which such a wise precaution has been taken to secure to the people the right of making such alterations and amendments, in a peaceful way, as experience shall have proved to be necessary. Allow me to say, sir, as far as the narrow limits of my own information extend, I know of no such example. In other countries, sir – unhappily for mankind – the history of their respective revolutions has been written in blood; and it is in this only that any great or important changes in our political situation has been effected, without public commotions. When we shall have adopted the Constitution before us, we shall have in this article an adequate provision for all the purposes of political reformation.” (2)

James Iredell clarified, “This is a very important clause. In every other constitution of government that I have ever heard or read of, no provision is made for necessary amendments… The Constitution of any government which cannot be regularly amended when it’s defects are experienced, reduces the people to this dilemma – they must either submit to its oppressions, or bring about amendments, more or less, by a civil war.” (3)

So the 27 amendments that we have, have all been proposed by Congress. A vast majority of Americans want a balanced budget amendment and term limits, yet Congress has refused to limit it power.

Father, we pray for a return to the original intent of the Constitution. Raise Americans up once again, to know and understand Your Word and align our civic duties with Your will, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
