Declaration of Dependence on God

Have you heard talking heads accuse Americans of being “Christian Nationalists” as if this phrase is alarming? Now, in the sense that a person living in any nation can be declared a “Christian,” no, you cannot be forced to be a Christian. Our Faith in Christ is not earned or bestowed this way. You have to opt in to Christianity, you cannot be forced nor declared to be dependent on Christ, Who alone shed His blood for our sins and saves us. 

On the other hand, if a group of Christians faithfully steward their relationship with Him, reading His Word, obeying and making disciples that love and obey Him, they can be a “City on a hill”, a beacon of His Righteousness who lead by serving in education, business and government. Hence the Puritans, realizing that the Church of England “was in no way a New Testament Church” escaped the tyranny of the king or queen of their day, Separated out, Pilgrimed over an ocean to a wilderness 3000 miles away to live and dedicate their lives to obey His Word. They began to govern themselves by His Word, and write their laws to Honor Him and His ways. Then that nation, not if they have 50% + 1 “Christians” but because their laws were based on His Word and they governed themselves for His Glory, those Christians have created a nation based on “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.”(1) 

If they “hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights,” they set up  “Governments” “… instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,” they just might be a Christian nation.(2)

Then if they refused the tyranny of a king by declaring the 27 ways that he had violated and had been trying to take away those God-given rights and responsibilities and instead appealed “to the Supreme Judge of the world”… “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence,” they … “mutually pledge to each other” … their “Lives,” their  “Fortunes and” … their “sacred Honor”, they just might be a Christian Nation.(3)

Whether they have the integrity, courage, boldness and meekness to continue to steward that title for the Honor and Glory of God remains to be seen. 

So help us, Almighty God! In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.
