Did you know that many of the founding fathers read the Bible through each year? As they were the product of the 1730’s revival, the Word of God was important to them and they made it their priority every day. Can we do the same?
Can we recognize how much the Constitution lines up with Biblical principles of self and civil government? Have you noticed that the first three articles of the Constitution are the enumerated powers for the Legislative, Executive and Judicial Branches? These line up with Isaiah 33:22 that says:
The Lord is our Judge, The Lord is our Lawgiver, The Lord is our King; He will save us.
The Founders knew that God IS government but when delegating this authority to men, these three areas of responsibility MUST be divided or there would be tyranny. Montesquieu, one of our Founding Fathers’ founding fathers taught this well in “The Spirit of Laws.”
John Locke, another Christian philosopher that our founders learned from taught that, “For men being all the workmanship of one Omnipotent, and infinitely wise Maker; all the servants of one Sovereign Master, sent into the world by His order and about His business, they are His Property, whose workmanship they are, made to last during His, not one another’s Pleasure.”
Do you hear how close this is to Ephesians 2:10:
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
Thomas Paine reasoned from 1 Samuel 8 and Judges 8 in Common Sense to encourage the men of his day to believe God for their liberty, to serve Him alone as their King. This is why their battle cry in defending themselves against the most mighty military power on Earth at that time, was “No other king, but King Jesus!”
Let’s read the Word , through this year in honor of our True King and our country. This will spark the deepest revival with reformation that our generation has ever seen.
So help us, Almighty God? In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1 NIV
