Honoring Our Moms on Mother’s Day
Happy Mother’s Day!

Below gives us a vision from several scriptures to encourage us as women. We do not need to measure up or achieve this in our own strength! But isn’t it a beautiful promise of what God Almighty has for us?
God created man, yet He “fashioned” woman. She was especially fitted to help. God gently leads her with her young. She is worth more than rubies and wins the heart of her husband as she stewards her gifts, talents, and resources to bless her family with land, a beautiful and inviting home, nice clothes and a prosperous future. The poor are welcome at her door as she refreshes and supplies them. She creates and develops clothing and merchandise for her family and business. Leading energetically, she funds new enterprises from her resources. Her trading is profitable as she manages well for the benefit of her husband, family, and home. She does not allow herself to be idle or wasteful; she smiles at the future. All her children are taught in the Lord. They love God, their parents and their country as they thank them and give God glory.(1)
One of the most well-known of the Founding Mothers is Abigail Adams. Her son, John Quincy credited his mom for teaching him how to pray:
“My mother was the daughter of a Christian clergyman… when I was only seven, she taught me to repeat daily… the Lord’s prayer before rising from bed… Now – seventy-one years after they were thus taught me – I repeat them from memory.”(2)
John Chandler Davis said of John Quincy Adams:
In 1847, I became well acquainted with him and frequently met with him and talked with him in the House of Representatives… He was very feeble. It was not long before the subject of religion was introduced by Mr. Adams. Among other things, I remember his saying, there are two prayers I love to say: the first is the Lord’s prayer…”(3)
As Proverbs says, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”(4)
Father! Bless our mommies. Help us to fear You and to raise our children to bless and serve You and our country, in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen!
