Dan Smithwick ~ on Government | A1 S8 C1 To Borrow

As I have served pastors, patriots and parents, I have recognized that parents need to be encouraged in their God-given duty to govern their families and educate their children. Dan Smithwick, of Nehemiah Institute shares Biblical wisdom and insight into the four spheres of government and breaks it down for us. I will follow up with a series to dig into these spheres, one at a time.

Enjoy here! (This may not be available until midnight. Sorry, I am on a learning curve!) You may take the PEERS test here.

A1 S8 C1 To Borrow

The Congress shall have Power … To borrow Money on the credit of the United States”  ~ A1 S8 C1

Thomas Jefferson was very vocal that this power given to the federal government was a mistake and even proposed changing this article through an amendment. He had a strategy that every time money was borrowed there would immediately be a tax imposed to begin paying it back. The original intent of the Constitution was that any debt would be paid back during the lives or even the term of the legislators who were borrowing or they would not be re-elected! “Most of the Founders seemed to have recognized that there are two ways to conquer and enslave a nation. One is by the sword and the other is by debt.” (1)

Leaving a debt to the next generation violates the scriptural responsibility in Proverbs 13:22, “Good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren…” We are never to leave this unconscionable debt of over $36 trillion that we are presently leaving to our grandchildren.

Proverbs 22:26 says, “Don’t agree to guarantee another person’s debt or put up security for someone else.” (Proverbs 22:26 NLT) So how have we gotten here with so much debt for so many ungodly causes?

We have not faithfully stewarded our Liberty.

We have forgotten what John Adams warned us,  that “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

“In other words the “American Constitution is designed to function effectively only if the citizenry possesses strong moral character and adheres to religious principles…” (2)

O Father God Almighty, forgive us for abdicating the civil Liberty that You gave us to men who do not obey You. Help us to repent and do the deeds that we once did. Anoint our leaders to teach us Your ways. Anoint parents to disciple their children to honor and serve You, in Jesus’ Mighty Name we pray, Amen.
