Teaching His Story

Of Virtue and Valor! | Constitutional Conversations A1 S9 C5-6 Inter-state Taxes

I recently was blessed to attend the some of the Turning Point Student Action Summit for high school and college students with my grandson this summer and the Turning Point Academy Summit with my daughter and some of our staff. You can read about that adventure HERE.

I got to talk with Charlie Kirk a bit last week to ask him to clarify his position on “FREE” scholarships. I am yearning for Americans to return to the Biblical principle of “General Welfare” when it comes to public policy. I didn’t get to share everything that was on my heart about the scholarships, but Charlie gave more time to this issue than I expected and I love his final summary of the situation. I agree that we MUST rescue the families from some of these public schools that are anti-Christ, anti-family and anti-American and we must do so immediately. Yet we are suffering from bad economic and public policies set decades, even centuries ago.

As we start a new school year let’s lean into what Charlie shared here to rescue as many families as we can. If we can extend grace to those who need it and yet have the virtue to not take what we do not need while we work on Restoring America’s Biblical Heritage, we may be able to recover. It will be a miracle from God and require Virtue and Valor from each of us.

Listen to a brief conversation here.

Next week I’d like to share my heart on this issue from a Biblical perspective so that as an older generation, we can rescue not only families in our nation, only with and by the grace of God, as we are not just in danger of going off a financial cliff, but with a 37 trillion debt, we have launched into what many believe is an unredeemable free-fall into debt and destruction.

Personally I have seen Almighty God rescue my family time and time again. As we commit our Way unto Him, He makes our path straight and gets ALL the glory!

Going forward I’ll share why this issue is so critical to the next generation and how the “good men” of the oldest generation can save ourselves and them.

Renewing the Mind Flexible Online Course

August 11 – October 17 EST

If you enjoyed Renewing the Mind Live, I think you’ll love this course. It uses the same text, but you will have access to the PDF version and access to on-demand videos from other Certified Master Teachers such as Dr. Max LyonsDr. Mike MyersLaura CarusoMartha Shirley, and Dan Smithwick. There will be three optional zoom meetings: August 21, September 11, and a final session on October 16.

This Renewing the Mind course is online and may be completed on a flexible schedule from August 11 – October 17, 2025 with no specific log-in times.

Renewing the Mind for Teaching and Learning is a study in the Principle Approach, an Historic method of thinking that views all life and learning through a Biblical lens, as our Founding Fathers did.

A Biblical philosophy of education begets a fresh approach to both curriculum and method. Start by “renewing your mind for teaching and learning” with a group of like-minded patriots and educators. This study is the first step in the process of restoring true Biblical education, the source of liberty and Christian self-government.

This version has more writing assignments in canvas that pulls out what you were able to learn and meditate on in the Renewing the Mind LIVE course. Hopefully you were able to complete the chart, but if not there is a second opportunity in this course. I find that most of us that are new to the Principle Approach® and Biblical Worldview methodology need it! If you have not taken the LIVE Renewing the Mind, you can still join this one. Sign up here.

I will not be teaching in this version but will be proctoring the course. I will be checking in each week to see how you are progressing and will offer feedback continually. You may reach out to me at any time during this course. I hope that if you feel that you have not quite mastered the “4R’s” and the Word Study methods that you will join us on another adventure to do so.

For His Glory and Honor!

No Tax or Duty shall be laid on Articles exported from any State  ~ A1 S9 C5

Oliver Ellsworth said “There are solid reasons against Congress taxing exports. First, it will discourage industry, as taxes on imports discourage luxury. Secondly, the produce of different states is such as to prevent uniformity in such taxes. There are indeed but a few articles that could be taxed at all; as tobacco, rice, and indigo; and a tax on these alone would be partial and unjust. Thirdly, the taxing of exports would engender incurable jealousies.”(1)

No Preference shall be given by any Regulation of Commerce or Revenue to the Ports of one State over those of another: nor shall Vessels bound to, or from, one State, be obliged to enter, clear, or pay Duties in another.  ~ A1 S9 C6

This provision sought to guard the equality of each state as they worked to become one nation. In the Articles of Confederation, the states could discriminate against one another by imposing taxes on exports.

Daniel Carroll and Luther Martin “Expressed their apprehensions, and the probable apprehensions of their constituents, that under the power of regulating trade the general legislature might favor the ports of particular states, by requiring vessels destined to or from other states to enter and clear the re at; as vessels belonging or bound to Baltimore, to enter and clear at Norfolk, etc.” (2)

Father, we pray that You would help us as a nation of states to return to these principles of equality between the states and to the authority that each state has Constitutionally to govern itself. Teach us Your Ways, O God. Forgive us for continually looking to the Federal government for our provision and law. Will You restore our dependence on You and independence of Man, for Your Glory we pray, Father, in Jesus’ Mighty Name! Amen.
