LYDIA DARRAH: QUAKERESS & AMERICAN SPY

Why Will Christian Entrepreneurship Defeat Communism?

God instructs us in Genesis 1:28 ESV, “And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”  Even though Adam sinned, this mandate was never revoked. How much more does the blood of Jesus Christ and His sacrificial death for our sin empower us to now obey this command?

We see that even though Adam sinned, work itself is not a curse. God says in Exodus 20:9 and Deuteronomy 5:13, “Six days you shall labor and do all your work.”

In fact, Proverbs 22:29 NLT says, “Do you see any truly competent workers? They will serve kings rather than working for ordinary people.”

Not leaving the New Testament out, 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 NLT says, “Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.”

Lord, please help us to work with You to bring on Earth what is in Heaven! Show us what this even means for Your glory to reign among us as You promise us in Deuteronomy 8:18, “Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.”

We want Your presence and Your Kingdom to be evident among Your people who are called by Your name. May 2026 be the year that You will use us to disciple others. Help us to be truly competent workers, minding our own business and working with our hands, being busy with the King’s business. In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

LYDIA DARRAH: QUAKERESS & AMERICAN SPY

In December of 1777, British officers met in the home of American Quaker Lydia Darrah. She was told to have her family in bed early and not to disturb the meeting. She obeyed and yet was able to overhear their plans to attack American troops at White Marsh. Lydia pretended to be asleep when the British left, but was woken up by the adjutant-general. She let  them out and extinguished their lamps and fire.

“She thought of the danger that threatened the lives of thousands of her countrymen, and of the ruin that impended over the whole land. Something must be done, and that immediately, to avert this wide-spread destruction. Should she awaken her husband and inform him? That would be to place him in special jeopardy, by rendering him a partaker of her secret; and he might, too, be less wary and prudent than herself. No; come what might, she would encounter this risk alone. After a petition for heavenly guidance, her resolution was formed; and she waited with composure, though sleep was impossible, till the dawn of day. Then she waked her husband, and informed him flour was wanted for the use of the household, and that it was necessary she should go to Frank-ford to procure it. This was no uncommon occurrence; and her declining the attendance of the maid-servant excited little surprise. Taking the bag with her, she walked through the snow; having stopped first at head-quarters, obtained access to General Howe, and secured his written permission to pass the British lines.

“The feelings of a wife and mother—one whose religion was that of love, and whose life was but a quiet round of domestic duties—bound on an enterprise so hazardous, and uncertain whether her life might not be the forfeit, may be better imagined than described. Lydia reached Frank-ford, distant four or five miles, and deposited her bag at the mill. Now commenced the dangers of her undertaking; for she pressed forward with all haste towards the outposts of the American army. Her determination was to apprise General Washington of the danger. She was met on her way by an American officer, who had been selected by General Washington to gain information respecting the movements of the enemy.… He immediately recognized her, and inquired whither she was going. In reply, she prayed him to alight and walk with her; which he did, ordering his men to keep in sight. To him she disclosed the secret, after having obtained from him a solemn promise not to betray her individually, since the British might take vengeance on her and her family.

“The officer thanked her for her timely warning, and directed her to go to a house near at hand, where she might get something to eat. But Lydia preferred returning at once; and did so, while the officer made all haste to the commander-in-chief. Preparations were immediately made to give the enemy a fitting reception.

“With a heart lightened and filled with thankfulness, the intrepid woman pursued her way homeward, carrying the bag of flour which had served as the ostensible object of her journey. None suspected the grave, demure Quakeress of having snatched from the English their anticipated victory…

“The adjutant-general questioned Lydia,’Were any of your family up, Lydia, on the night when I received company in this house?’

“’No,’ was the unhesitating reply. ‘They all retired at eight oclock’ …The pious quakeress blessed God for her preservation, and rejoiced that it was not necessary for her to utter an untruth in her own defence. And all who admire examples of courage and patriotism, especially those who enjoy the fruits of them, must honor the name of Lydia Darrah.”

A2S2C1 Presidential Control Over Military

The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States  ~ A2S2C1

James Iredell explained, “The command of armies ought to be delegated to one person only. The secrecy, dispatch, and decision, which are necessary in military operations, can only be expected from one person. The president, therefore, is to command the military forces of the United States… The president has not the power of declaring war by his own authority, nor that a raising fleets and armies… The power of declaring war is expressly given to Congress, that is, to the two branches of the legislature.

“With regard to the militia… He has the command of them when called into the actual service of the United States, yet he has not the power of calling them out. The power of calling them out is vested in Congress.”(1)

Hamilton agreed,  “Of all the cares or concerns of the government, the direction of war most peculiarly demands those qualities which distinguish the exercise of power by a single hand. The direction of war implies the direction of the common strength; and the power of directing and employing the common strength forms a usual and essential part in the definition of the executive authority.”(2)

Father God, we ask You to give our president wisdom and protection in this season of war and invasion. Anoint him to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States”  especially Article IV, Section 4 to guarantee a “Republican Form of Government” and to “protect each” state “against Invasion” and “against domestic Violence.” Let our representatives cherish the Freedom and Liberty that only comes from obedience to Your Word. Help the Church to obey You and to fulfill our duty to “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything” You have commanded us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
