What does the Preamble Say?

Let’s look at the preamble to America’s Constitution:

Did you know that Gouverneur Morris wrote this Preamble? He was concerned that one day, Americans may not read this precious Liberty protecting document. As Christians, we know that our Liberty comes from the Spirit of God and that it was for freedom that Christ set us free. We are not to submit again to a yoke of bondage.

Thomas Jefferson said, “I know no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves ; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power.”

James Madison agreed: “A well-instructed people alone can be permanently a free people.”

Benjamin Franklin warned, “Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”

“Our Constitution was made only for a  moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other,” explained John Adams.

Father, please help us, We the People of the United States, be enlightened so that we can once again exercise control of our self, family and civil government with a wholesome discretion. May we use Your Word to guide us to correct abuses of Constitutional power. Anoint us to steward well our Liberty that we may Restore America’s Biblical Heritage for ourselves and our posterity.

In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen!
