We the People: Slavery v Abortion
We despise the rewritten version of our founders as pro-slavery racists, yet Frederick Douglass said of the Constitution, “… instead of encouraging slavery, the Constitution encourages freedom by giving an increase of ‘two-fifths’ of political power to free over slave states…”
We could learn well from them now that Roe has been overturned. (Glory to God Almighty!) We have allowed abortion in America for over 50 years. It is not easy to end injustice, is it? But this is our heritage as American Christians and I have good news for you! In Florida we have the rest of 2023 to sign one million petitions from registered Florida voters to get a pro-life Amendment proposal on next year’s general election ballot. The summary says:
An amendment recognizing the God-given right to life of the preborn individual. Defines “preborn individual” as a preborn human person at any stage of development. Affirms that life-saving procedures to save the life of the mother shall not be construed as a violation when accompanied by reasonable steps to save the life of the preborn individual. To be added to the Declaration of Rights under Article I of the Florida Constitution.
There is a pro-abortion petition also that has gathered over 400,000 signed petitions. It is being pushed as “reproductive freedom” but will wipe out all of the pro-life legislation that we have worked for 30 years to establish. (See this page on the HumanLifeFL.com website)
This is an opportunity for pastors to jump at the chance to position their flock for the mercy and grace of God in the midst of impending judgment.
I signed mine as a covenant to my Lord, Savior and King to align myself with Him and His Word. It is an opportunity to Love what He loves and Hate what He hates. No, it may not win. But at least we can be part of the solution and be pleasing to Him, if only a small protected flock. I urge you not to neglect this opportunity.
